It’s the Christmas week, and now it’s the perfect time to consider what you want your ideal winter morning routine to look like this year. Yes, winter is a slower season, but you can still improve your habits, work on your goals, and thrive!
I often struggle with cold winter mornings. I catch myself hitting the snooze button more often than I’d like, and the only thing I want to do is stay under the warm covers and sleep in. There are many times I get out of bed last minute and I have to rush to get ready for the day.
It doesn’t have to be like this, though. The beginning of the new year is the best (and most inspiring) time to claim our mornings back.
I’m not talking about settling – but about designing a slow morning routine that can transform your life and bring you closer to your ideal self.
It’s not about miracles. It’s about having a plan and being consistent.
Here’s the 6-step slow morning routine that’ll transform your life this winter
1. Wake up early
Claim your mornings from the moment you open your eyes. Stop hitting that snooze button on your alarm by placing your phone away from bed, and get out of it as soon as you wake up. Put your feet on the floor to ground yourself, take a few deep breaths, and get ready to start your day.
Make your bed and think about the intentions you want to set for the day. How do you want to experience it? What are your priorities and your top goals? What’s your main focus for the day?
By waking up early, you can seize the day and have a slower morning for yourself and your goals.
2. Embrace silence
Embracing silence and stillness is a good way to be mindful with your mornings. Instead of catching up with your notifications and socials the moment you wake up, try to stay calm and focus on the present moment and your surroundings.
Get comfortable with silence and include activities that promote it in your morning routine. Of course, meditation is one of the practices than can help even if you do it for just five minutes. But, if that’s not what you need right now, consider doing just a few gentle stretches or practicing some breathwork.

3. Let the fresh air in
I know it’s cold, but try to not stay in stale energy hidden behind close windows. Instead, open your windows every morning (the earlier the better) to let natural light and fresh air in. There are many benefits in this habit for both your physical and mental well-being.
The energy of your space will be renewed, fresh oxygen will boost your mood and focus, and natural light can help with regulating your internal clock. Take a deep breath and make sure to enjoy the fresh air of the new day every single morning.
4. Pick your affirmation(s)
You should definitely include morning affirmations in your morning routine if you want to start your day positively and set the right mindset. Make sure to pick statements that promote self-esteem, gratitude, self-love, and confidence – truly, whatever you need the most.
You basically want to remind yourself of your worth and what you’re capable of and, at the same time, get inspired and motivated to have a productive day and work on your goals and personal projects.

5. Write a morning page
You can’t have a good day if you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious with a lot of thoughts in your head. That’s kinda the point of morning pages, and it’s a simple concept because you really don’t have to overthink it.
Grab your notebook and get comfortable with the sole purpose of filling a page with whatever goes on in your mind. Let your thoughts out, process your feelings, make a to-do list, brainstorm your next big project, or even doodle. It really doesn’t matter because there are no rules. The goal is to express yourself before starting your day.
6. Have one small personal ritual
Commit to one personal ritual that’ll become a crucial part of your winter morning routine. Pick something that makes you feel good, pretty, or motivated – or all of that. It could be a skincare routine, a work-out practice, or just catching up with your favorite youtuber or content creator.
It doesn’t have to be aesthetic or productive. It’ll only be your sacred time, a commitment to yourself, something that you love doing and it’ll just boost your mood before you go to work or start working on your to – do list.
These six simple steps are just suggestions that can help you build a winter morning routine that is both pleasant and motivating. You can still embrace the slowness of the season while you work on becoming the best version of yourself and getting the life you’ve always wanted to have.
