Happy June, everyone!
A dilly-dally catch-up
Summer is here and we’re steadily approaching the mid of 2025. Are you ready for the new season? Because I’m not, although I’m still excited about it!
I haven’t even tidied away my overcoats yet, my sweaters are still taking space in my wardrobe (although washed – update at the time of posting: I stored them away yesterday!), and just the other day I helped my mother tidy the mats away. The weather has been inconsistent and I’ve been a mess – not gonna lie. I mean, I’m getting it together but May was such an eventful month with a lot of things happening, so I didn’t prepare properly to welcome the new season.
Summer is not my favorite season – it’s my least favorite, actually. I’m excited for this summer though, because I’ve decided to treat it as an opportunity to reset and recharge before the seasons of autumn and winter that I love.
Let’s get serious – What this post is about?
In this post, I’m sharing the five habits I’m tracking this month, and why I chose to go with them.
My June habits are mainly focused on wellness and self-improvement, and I chose to not go with more than five because I tend to get overwhelmed and eventually burn – out if I try to track like… 10 habits at once.
Yes, I’ve tried that more than once in the past. Have you?
The Five Habits I’m Tracking This June
1) Reading
One of my monthly goals is to read two books: The Strawberry Patch Pancake House by Laurie Gilmore and On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King. Overall, my goal for 2025 is to read 20 books, and I’ve read only 3 so far. Still, it’s better than nothing and every step we take is important – right?
It’s been a struggle to read in the recent years since I always tend to get distracted by the screens around me. I have to make a conscious effort to read, and I’ll usually need a break after finishing a chapter or reading 10-15 pages.
I’d like to think that it’s doable to read these two books though – or at least finish the first one (that I’ve already started) and make significant progress with the second one that I’m ashamed to admit I own since late 2022 – never tried to read it, though.
Now, the main reason I’d like to read more is to become a better writer. I’ve noticed reading inspires me, helps me get more in touch with my writing voice, and fuels my mind with new ideas.
I’ll make sure to update you on how this goes.
2) Gratitude
Gratitude is one of my favorite habits that I tend to practice consistently. I don’t intend to change that in June.
My gratitude practice goes through several phases depending on my mood and motivation, but I usually express gratitude for three things every morning and for five to ten things every night before I go to sleep.
I also make sure to do a weekly gratitude practice to reflect on everything I’m thankful for at the end of each week.
Gratitude has helped me being more appreciative of all the good things in my life, and also admire the simple things that we often tend to take for granted.
It’s the one habit that has truly changed my life for the better and supported me during dark times.
3) Hydration
In May I didn’t drink as much water as I should have. In the last week of the previous month, I noticed that my intake was especially low, something that I aim to change this month.
I’ve noticed that there are days I get sleepy around 3 – 4 p.m. so I’d like to see if having more water helps with it, because I saw on Reddit that this has been the case for quite a few people.
So, I plan to drink 1.5 liters water/day, and I know that most people aim for 2 liters/day, but I don’t think I need that much since I spend most hours of the day at home currently, and also, it’s unlikely I’d be able to keep up with this goal at this point.
I’m curious to see how it goes since I usually don’t crave water, but hopefully the warmer weather will help with that.
I wonder if I’ll notice any benefits, but I’ll make sure to update you on this.
4) Meditation
In May, I went back to a wonderful habit I’d neglected for months: meditation. I’m glad I did.
I’ve made meditation a part of my morning routine and I usually do guided meditations that I find on YouTube – I already have a few favorites. I try to practice before I get out of bed to start my day. I find that it’s easier for me, in that semi-awake state, to empty my mind from irrelevant thoughts and focus on my breathing.
So far, I usually meditate for just 10 minutes, but I’d like to keep practicing, so I’d be able to meditate for maybe 30 minutes in the near future.
I’ve already seen a few improvements in my day-to-day life, even though it hasn’t been a long time since I started practicing meditation again. I am much more present and grounded during the day, I procrastinate less, and I work more efficiently on my projects.

Actually, I posted my experience on Medium, and you can read the full story here (for members) or here (for non-members).
5) Journaling
The last habit I’m tracking this month is journaling more consistently. A while ago, I realized that I usually journal about bad experiences, or things that trouble and stress me out and I’d like to change that.
I’d like to also start journaling about all the good things that happen in my life and lovely experiences that I wouldn’t like to forget.
These days, I struggle a little with filling empty pages with my thoughts, so I tend to write in a guided journal since its prompts make it easier for me to express myself.
My go-to is “The Five-Minute Journal” by Intelligent Change. I try to write in it every morning and night to have a quick check-in with myself and how my day went.
Conclusion
These are the five habits that I’m tracking this June, and of course I’ll make sure to update you at the end of the month to let you know how everything went.
