How to Get Your New Year’s Resolutions Back on Track

February 10, 2026February 10, 2026 Danae Post a comment

January is the month of hope and possibilities. We celebrate the new year, and it just feels like everything is possible. To be completely honest, yes, everything can change and happen within one year – why not? It’s nice to have this kind of mindset. But, then, the holidays are over and, as we get back into our daily routine, things don’t feel that different. We get discouraged we neglect or even completely forget about our New Year’s resolutions. It’s not too difficult for the days to become weeks and then months and for us to have zero or minimum progress on our goals. The sadness and procrastination that often come with the winter blues don’t exactly help either.

So, how are you feeling this February? Are you still going strong or you’ve already started falling short on your goals? Whatever is going on for you right now, the point is to not give up. Setbacks are just challenges, and if we’re romantic enough, yes, they do make life more interesting. So, take a deep breath and remind yourself that it’s okay. There’s still hope, and nothing is lost just yet.

If you’ve found yourself faltering, here are 6 strategies that’ll help you get your new year’s resolutions back on track.

1. It’s time to revisit your goals and be honest with yourself

When was the last time you checked your New Year’s resolutions? Has it been over a month? Well, it’s time to take a look at the possibly long list of goals you set for yourself, and figure out if they all still resonate with you. Are you still looking forward to accomplishing all of them in 2026?

Is there any goal that you really don’t feel connected to anymore? Is there anything new you’d like to add? Do this kind of check-in with yourself, and try to be honest about where your priorities stand. It’s important to check in with your yearly goals frequently – not only to track your progress, but also to see if there are any changes or additions you’d like to make.

This check in will also be (obviously) a good reminder about your goals because if you’re anything like me, you might find yourself forgetting that you even set some of them.

2. Prioritize three goals right now

This is especially useful if you feel overwhelmed. You can’t do all at once, and there’s a chance you’ll find yourself unable to do anything to work on your goals because you don’t know where to start from. So, it’s time to get your priorities straight.

What are your three most important goals right now – your non-negotiables? Why do you want to accomplish them, and how could they help the vision you have for your life? Once you’ve figured out your why, you’ll find it easier to decide on what you want to prioritize right now.

There’s no need to set a timeline for them if it’s technically impossible or you just don’t want to. Just focus on deciding your three current priorities.

3. Be patient with yourself

If you haven’t made the progress you’d like with your goals and you’re feeling disappointed in yourself, it’s a good opportunity to practice self-compassion. Be patient with yourself, and acknowledge that you only need to take it slower for a little while.

Try to let go of any expectations and focus on the present moment. Treat yourself like you’d treat any friend or loved one who’d go through the same thing.

If you still want to work on your goals, design a few actions steps for the most important ones (check my first suggestion again) and try to work on just one of those. Stop looking at the bigger picture for now, and only focus on what you actually have the energy and mental capacity to do.

4. Celebrate your small or bigger wins

Self-pity is not for us – not this year at least! We might be struggling at the moment, but we can still seek joy in small things. So, especially if you feel low this month, it’s essential to celebrate your wins no matter how small or indifferent they seem to you.

If you spent a morning doing laundry and cleaning your kitchen, that’s something you should be proud of and celebrate. If you worked for 20 minutes on a project, that’s amazing! If you wrote one paragraph of your book, congratulations! It’s still progress even if it doesn’t feel like much.

So, celebrate it. Treat yourself to something you like. Watch an episode from your favorite show. Play your videogame. We all need small rewards and validation to keep moving forward in life.

5. Practice mindfulness to connect with yourself

When things get tough, try to be mindful. As I said earlier, it’s important to treat yourself with compassion and kindness, but it’s also essential to focus on your mindset. Mindfulness will help you to connect with yourself, focus on the present moment, and find out what you need from your life right now.

If you’ve been reading me for a while, you probably know that I always suggest affirmations and journaling. Another favorite way to practice presence and self-connection is movement. My current obsession is stretching, but I’ve also tried yoga, and it’s absolutely beneficial as well.

6. Create a routine (and stick with it until it stops working)

Boosting our productivity and motivation can help us get out of the funk, and I find that having some kind of daily routine can help with that – until said routine becomes boring and I need to reconsider things. That’s okay, though, and I know it happens to many people. Let’s embrace it, I guess.

So, create a morning routine that’ll make you feel motivated and look forward to starting your day. It doesn’t have to be complicated or busy. It could be as simple as you taking the time to enjoy your morning coffee and read your book or watch a video from your favorite youtuber.

Did you ever check this out btw?

The most important thing is to figure out what works for you and create a daily ritual that’ll make you feel good and set the tone for the day ahead.

February can be a challenging month, and you might find yourself in a funk or feeling unmotivated. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to go through such moments, and there are always ways to improve things. I hope these six strategies will help you to reconnect with your 2026 resolutions, and start working on them again.

Until next time ❤️
